By FishychipsI like the "unstructured" look of this computer backpack. It's well-designed, constructed of sturdy materials, roomy without being bulky, nice thin back straps, and multi-compartmented. BUT Medium is HUGE, meant for a 17" laptop which of course, will fit anything smaller, and smaller items will be down in the dark hole somewhere... Description stated for 13-17". Suitable also for a big guy, not this petite woman. I'll be taking a look at the smaller size for my 15". Returned and reordered size Small.Review on Size Small. Fits my 15" MacBook Pro and me. HOWEVER... the tubular padded bumper inside the bottom of the laptop pocket isn't anchored front to back to ensure the laptop remains safe from drops from any distance. My laptop slips to one side or the other of the bumper, allowing contact to the bag buttom, which means NO protection at all. I wonder who checked the final production design... That's unfortunate, because the pack is attractive and comfortable to wear, single or double backpack strapped. Very disappointing. I hate to be returning things... doesn't do the job no matter how attractive.Medium is Huge... Plus review on smaller bag.

By Ozwald DockenmierI originally got this bag because the Medium Size is just under the maximum carry-on dimensions for most airlines. Since purchasing it I have used it nearly everyday. The bag is big, but not too bulky when empty or full and will keep a load secure with the top flap straps, that double as compression straps. A great bag to carry your laptop and still have room for groceries on the way home from work. If you are on your bike, the front pocket stays loose, even when the main compartment is packed full to hold a U-lock or any tools you might need access to with out unloading the whole thing. But, if you are a bike messenger (like I used to be), do not get this bag. It is too small for some packages, and lacks a sternum strap for large loads. It also only water resistant and the top does not seal up completely. If you are making deliveries all day, get a more heavy-duty (and unfortunately more expensive) messenger bag. For anyone besides a bike messenger though, this bag is great.Great office bag/grocery getter, but not for messengers

By TowerblockFirst, let me suggest something to you. Messenger bags are great for riding on a bike where they are laying vertically down your back and you are leaning over, but they are awful for long walks/hikes. Backpacks are much less fatiguing if you are walking around the city, school or the mountains. I have 3 Timbuk2 messenger bags, and while I love their construction and the ease with which you can pack them, they just don't cut it for walking around all day. Riding a bike, they are fine..just not for walking. Now about this pack..I got the small size and it's almost perfect for my uses. I'm 6' and the pack does not look too small on my back. I wanted a daypack that I could throw some camera gear in, as well as a jacket, water and odds and ends. I also wanted a pack that I could easily open to get my camera out as I cruise around the city. In addition, I could find no backpacks for camera gear that had enough extra room to store typical things for a day hike. I also wanted something that didn't scream camera bag. Here is the camera gear I was carrying in the pack: Nikon F5, 28mm, 50mm, 35-70mm, 15-30mm, 105mm and SB800 flash as well as film.First, let's start with access. The flip top on this pack is perfect for this. I've tried normal zipper packs, fold top packs, camera backpacks, camera bags and now this pack, and this bag is almost perfect. Other positives, it's very waterproof..it's lined with a waterproof liner and the sides of the pack where you flip the lid over are designed in a way that it would offer a lot of protection from rain..more than the timbuk2 messengers I have.Next, what about comfort? This thing has no waist straps, is that ok? The way they cut the straps is magic...it's the most comfortable pack I've ever worn. I did a 7 mile walk with my camera gear (taking no breaks) and it's the most comfortable of any bag I've ever had. Most backpacks and camera bags have my shoulders aching after a mile or two. On all other packs I have, when I load them with a bit of weight and need to walk for long distances I'm usually messing with the waist straps, adjusting all the time etc. With this pack, I just put it on and it felt great. I did not miss the waist straps at all! What about laptop storage? Yes, it's got the typical Timbuk2 floating laptop sleeve. The sleeve is sewn to the inner wall, padded and "floats" about an inch above the bottom of the bag, presumably providing some extra protection when you put the bag down. It also has side access to your laptop so you can swing the bag around and get the laptop out from the side without opening the top. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it would fit my 15" macbook pro in there (and remember I bought the small size of the pack). What about security? Well the top flap flips over and locks with velcro. In addition there are two buckles to lock it down. I would say the pack is about as secure as most other backpacks..any valuables in there I would put WAY at the bottom of the big inner pocket. If you are using a typical backpack that zippers all the way around, what often ends up happening is that the zipper pull is way at the bottom of one side. This is a pick pockets dream. All they have to do is move the zipper up a little and they have access to the bottom of the pack where heavier items (wallets, keys etc.) tend to fall. With the SWIG they would have to reach ALL THE WAY DOWN from the top of the pack to get to the bottom, which would be a bit harder to do unnoticed (and they would have to be tall enough and have long arms!).If I were to improve this pack I'd add a few more organization pockets and maybe an inch or two in size (well they have the medium for that!), and maybe put a zipper around the inside of the top lip that would let you zip it to the top inside of the flip over flap for when you want extra security. This might impact the water resistance though as you would have a zipper sewn across the inside portion of the top flap.Awesome backpack, most comfortable I've worn
